I promised some more projects from the group of girls that Michelle called into action in order to help Far Flung have the best little booth at CHA. These ladies really stepped up and put in the overtime to provide me with some amazing art for the booth.

You have already seen some of the projects Jessy did, as well as those from Yatie. Well, I wanted to show you this amazing box done by Nadhrah. She used papers from the Perankan line and covered this mini trunk with all sorts of amazing art work!

Did you see all the bobbles and bits? She also used a flower from the Meiji Line. So detailed, so amazing!

Hello out there? How was your weekend? Productive? Did you scrapbook-rest-read...or all of the above? I had a great weekend, hanging out with the kids, doing more with the FFC website and generally enjoying time in Singapore.

First, I think the shipment should be arriving in the US soon (I need to check with the forwarder) and everyone who placed orders at CHA should receive a notice soon about final shipping dates and costs...

Second, more amazing art has been loaded to the website along with the start of some project pages. I have long wanted to get project pages up for you to see actually step by step instructions for some of the amazing art from this site and I finally got one of these....

So go check out some of the great art that has been loaded. See work by Aida Haron, Michelle Ku, Lia Abdulla and Faye Forster as well as work from Design Team members Sharon, Ed and June.

New Gallery Uploads

I have been meaning to do this for the LONGEST time, but I am finally getting some amazing art work (much has been featured on this blog) onto the Website and the Gallery. Today alone I uploaded over 30 projects to the Gallery. You can find them under the Design Team and Friends of Far Flung sections. I will go in tomorrow and update the key words (making it searchable) and give some base line instructions on some as well.

I have probably another 50 projects to load... so do check back

What it is all about...

As many of you know, I travel, I travel a lot. Not as much as some, but often more than I really wish too. Last week I was in KL on a horrible terrible no good rotten day. I flew up for a meeting, only to find after I got there it was cancelled. That night as I called back to Singapore for the evening check in (I try to talk with the family every day when I am traveling)... I was told by my son that he had made a purchase on his school field trip to Chinatown. He told me he got me a present.

I got home to find this pretty necklace. I am sure it is cheap (the chain already has needed a swap out as it turned colors after I wore it once) but the smile on this kids face and the fact that he thought so much to buy me (and his sister) gifts, well that rocks my world.

Oh and do you think I am going to scrapbook this picture... you betcha, and even more importantly, I am going to tell the story.

So, one of the coolest things is to have awesome friends. Friends that step in without being asked and say... you need help, and I am here to help. Michelle is just one of those gals. Early in January I was in KL on a business trip and mentioned that I was a bit stressed in trying to come up with enough projects and layouts for the booth at CHA. Without even being asked, Michelle rallyed the troops and asked a bunch of awesome Malaysian scrappers to step in and help.

Here are a few of the projects by Jessy that were created for the booth. You can see more of Jessy's work on her blog including more close up details of these great projects. Tomorrow projects from Nadhrah.

I really love the combinations Jessy did of these two lines. While I designed the papers to have similar colorways and to be able to work together, I never expected to see such amazing combinations! Thanks Jessy for all your hard work!

Welcome Home by Sharon Chan

So, CHA Winter 2010 is over, the orders will be input this week and while inventory is on its way to the US, it is time to start updating the webpages. This year, we are going to start to update projects showing a product list and instructions on how to acheive similar projects!

Jessy found one!

So Jessy has found one of the new products in the layout below. We are expanding all of our lines to include handcrafted coordinating fabric tags. Each of our paper lines will have two new sets of coordinated fabric tags.

These tags are handcrafted, limited editions. We purchase fabrics from around the Asian Region specifically for these tags and when the fabric supply runs out the first set of tags will retire. Worry not... there is plenty of fabric and LOTS of tags.

So today, here is the sneak of the handcrafted fabric tags that coordinate with the Peranakan Line

What's happening at FFC Central?

Well lots and lots and lots to be sure since my long ago post....

Mostly all related to CHA in Anaheim

Products for CHA Winter 2010 are all designed-prototypes finished and ready for the CHA.

Booth design-Finished and gridwall ordered

CHA Booth Projects and Layouts (on the way... did you know that we plan on over 40 projects and layouts in a 10X10 booth?)

Plane tickets purchase, accommodations settled and cars rented. Oh and I had to extend my drivers license via mail so I can rent the car....

Press kits planned- Swag for booth planned

Catalog is about 80% finished

Oh and a few holidays were celebrated...

CHA Winter 2010 Booth 2083

Ok, so three international trips kind of interupped the semi-regular blogging that was going on...but I want to let you all know it is confirmed. We are going to CHA Winter again. I am still elbows deep in product development, but we have lots of fun fun things lined up. Some new embellishments are about to hit the shelves of your local scrapbook stores and we think you will love them.

In the meantime... look out for new product sneaks that will appear once and a while on the blog here and there and a super simple layout done two nights ago using up scraps from the bin and maybe, just maybe a prototype....

So, Sharon posted on her blog about how I brought 2 full suitcases to KL with me for the classes at Scrappingville. I know what was in her's too... boy do you want to do her Lumpy Bumpy Class. It will be SO FUN!

Now, on the accusation that I had two suitcases of stuff JUST for the classes, I have to say that is not really true. There were SOME clothes in the bag as well. Not much mind you but some. I figure who needs more than one outfit anyway.

Instead my bags were filled with kits filled with all sorts of lovely things.

Plus a bunch of paint, Gesso and inks.

Plus a ton of fabric to share and play with in class.

Plus a big order of paper soon to be on sale at Scrappingville.

Plus some shoes and one bag of toiletries and my laptop and my book (and no Lia and Sal, it does not have any vampires in it at all!)

So what are you waiting for? There are a few spots left in the classes (but not many!)

Scrappingville Sneak Peeks

So, Malaysian Scrappers (and those who feel like taking a trip to KL) I am so very excited to give you some sneak peaks into the two classes I will be teaching in KL at Scrappingville.

In the first class, Sew Much History the students will create a mini quilted album featuring Far Flung Craft's Chinese New Year Paper. A 4 page album will be created, each page is an independent mini-quilt. ONLY BASIC SEWING IS INVOLVED. Each student is encouraged to use black and white photos and heritage photos to make this one of a kind unique project. Mixed Media Fabric techniques married with good old scrapbooking. In order to personalize your project feel free to pull out all of your own stamps and bring them along as we will be doing a stamp collage as part of the process!

The second class Fabric Faboosh! is a fabric covered mini album is filled with all of your favorite Far Flung Craft papers from the Peranakan Line and features fun and funky fabric art techniques. Do you love digging through stacks of fabric to find the one that speaks to you? Are you a tactile person that loves to play with paper, fabric and fibers? Students will complete a 5X7 mini-album in class and learn a number of mixed media techniques that can expand your scrapbooking to new levels as well as using up your stash.

Students are encouraged to pull out old ribbons, fibers and fabric that they have in their own stash, but plenty of fun unique and interesting materials will be provided.

While looking at some wonderful crafty blogs I fell upon a post about one of Oregon's greatest events. Every quilter worth her stiches (at least those on the West Coast) know about the Sister's Quilt Show,an annual festival to all things fabric.

Sigh, I miss Oregon and know that next summer I intend to be home for a bulk of the summer to enjoy this quilt show and the Oregon Country Fair... but in the meantime, how great is this!

Personal Post-Eight Years ago today

Eight Years is a very long time. So long that you forget the pain. So long that you forget the fear. So long that you forget the screams. So long that you forget what the doctors told you to do or what the nurses were trying to say. A night without sleep, a dinner missed (and the fish all gone bad on the BBQ)....

All you remember is the joy, the laughter, the smiles. The happiness you share, the ability to open your heart beyond all possible descriptions. You know your life has turned down a path that is never going to be the same as the one you started down. Your work changes, your choices change. Decisions you used to make on a whim you now spend hour mulling over. Travel becomes more difficult, but more poignant. You share your life with an additional soul. One that is forever linked to you in ways you can not imagine. You know what it feels like to fret and worry and cheer for joy. You no longer can watch TV shows without randomly bursting into tears when a child or family is hurt or those commercials that do exactly what the admen want them to do, pull at your heartstrings.

You struggle with money, you struggle with bodily functions, you struggle with skinned knees and hurt feelings. You struggle to remain patient when something doesn't work the way that you expect, or want, or think that you want. You struggle with the early mornings with too much activity when all you want is a cup of coffee. You struggle with hopes and dreams for someone other than yourself, but you don't want to impose your dreams on someone else. You struggle to give the best of yourself everyday to someone who needs it.

Eight years after you become a mother you know why your mother stayed up all night with worry when you were out late at night. Eight years after becoming a mother you know why this is the best thing you could ever do. Eight years after becoming a mother you can't imagine what life would have been life without those scraped knees, hurt feelings and puke buckets. Poopy diapers and trips to the doctor. Hospital visits and school plays.

Eight years is just the start. These have been the best eight years of my life.

Declan my main man-my main buddy-my number one son- thank you for joining my life eight years ago. Happy Birthday little man.

New Classes Coming Soon!

Hey all of you Malaysian Scrappers.... Far Flung Craft is coming soon to a few stores in KL with great new classes and projects. We will be starting at Scrappingville September 24-25 with lots of Fabric/Canvas projects. My partner in these classes is the wonderful Sharon Chan!

Projects using Far Flung Craft

Today is about sharing some work that I have found using products from Far Flung Craft.

How about this super card featuring the Chinese New Year paper~ I found this one while searching the net and was so pleased to see the papers being used in a fun and patriotic way!

The detail on this card is just amazing... Love the mix of fabric, paper, stickles, stamps....so fun!

Patti used these papers and the stamp is from Magnolia-licious.

Now, look at what Michelle did here... again using the Chinese New Year papers.

The detail work on this layout is stunning, she fussy cut around all the details in the paper, added glossy accent and some bling and backed it with the Yellow Tiankong paper.

I love how versatile the CNY line is!

So, one last share for you today. Check out this card again by the talented Michelle Ku This time using some of the Batik line. So simple and classic~ Wow.

Hanging out in KL

So I have been here in KL with my DT travel partner in crime... Ms. Sharon Chan. We have spent the last few days hanging out with some fun Malaysian Scrappers...including the amazing Ms. Michelle Ku, Naddy Nad of ScrappingChix, and spending time planning some classes next month at Scrappingville. For those of you living in KL, check with Sharon at Scrappingville soon for information on the classes we will be offering NEXT MONTH!!!

What a fun few days this has been, but alas, all play and no work means...well, I am not sure what that means, but it's a saying.

I had a great time hanging out with the lovely ladies at Shabby Chic in Brunei. I was able to take this beautiful class from Lia

I was also able to take a class from the very innovative and creative Emily. So much fun, a little album in a Maya Road lunch box...

And then I was the ever able assistant to my own DT member Sharon who made a fun mess featuring Far Flung Craft papers!

What a fun fun weekend, can't wait to do something again in Brunei!

Brunei or Bust

So this weekend I will be spending some time in Brunei with my gal pals Lia and Sharon (and maybe one more...) First I am going to be hanging out here absorbing some scrappy goodness from these talented ladies at the great scrapbook store known as Shabby Chic. Then on Sunday at 11 am in the same building ("the Mall") at Gadong I will be at Best Eastern Bookstore doing a booksinging of the book Scrapbook Asian Style .

While at the signing I will be doing a quick demo and discussion on what is "Asian Style" and showing off some layouts from the book. Come see me if you are in Brunei! Should be fun!
